Super Furs for the Super Futures is a site-specific installation that explores the relationship between state government, manifest destiny, colonization, and beavers by unpacking the unusual choice by the Idaho state government to parachute beavers to other geographic areas to control a growing population in the 1940s and 50s. The installation features Lady HOW (Haunting or Whatever), the avatar of member Angie Morrill, who reckons with the violence of colonialism through acts of recognition, un-settling, and imagining otherwise.
Super Furs for the Super Futures is the first installment of a larger project titled Power Bottom which explores the sovereignty of beavers and their kinship to SFHQ via the Specularity. Power Bottom considers the pasts, futures, presents, and presence of beavers, as they entangle with manifest destiny, desire, and fabulation via accounts of beaver refusals to be ‘nature’s perfect engineers.’
